Digital Mammography Course with Clinical Applications
This course in digital mammography is hosted by the Advanced Health Education Center (AHEC) in Houston, Texas. It is designed for professional mammographers and other radiologic technologists. However, all healthcare professionals are welcome to attend.
Course Information
AHEC hosts digital mammography training courses once per quarter. These courses are taught by highly skilled healthcare professionals. The cost for the digital mammography course is $189.
You will earn 8 credit hours for successfully completing this course. Both the in-person live event and live webinar start at 8:00 a.m. CST and conclude at 4:15 p.m. CST. There will be a one-hour lunch break.
Course Topics
In this advanced course, you will learn more about the benefits and challenges of digital mammography. This day-long course will immerse you in the world of a professional mammographer.
The course topics include:
- Digital Mammography Basics: This will discuss the benefits of digital mammography for patients and medical professionals and will give you an overview of common mammography terminology.
- Digital Mammography Theory and Physics: In this section, you will learn about some of the advanced technology available for professional mammographers and how it improves early detection.
- Positioning: Here you will learn about the two routine mammography positions and discuss how to overcome positioning challenges.
- Digital Artifacts: This topic teaches you some of the common artifacts encountered with digital mammography and how to identify them.
- Quality Control: This topic will discuss what the Quality Control (QC) numbers mean and how to establish quality control guidelines in an automated world.
- Clinical Applications: In this part of the course, you will learn how and when to use digital mammography in a clinical setting.
- Pathology of the Breast in the Digital World: You will explore how digital mammography and other technology have changed the pathology of the breast in this topic.
Credit Approval
You must attend the entire program to receive your credits and certificate of completion. This includes both live and online courses. This course awards AHRA Category A continuing education credits for radiological technologists. These credits are recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and other licensure states.
Instructor
Christi Freiley RT(R)(M) is the current instructor for this course. She has been a practicing mammographer for more than 20 years. Her career in mammography began at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Mansfield, Ohio in 1998.
She has experience with accreditation, biopsies, needle localizations, as a lead mammographer, in QC, and DEXA. She is currently a Mammographer at Kelsey Seybold Clinic in Kingwood, Texas. Christi started her initial radiography training at Houston Community College and some of her mammography training through AHEC.
